In Cradle to Cradle, McDonough and Braungart argue that the conflict between industry and the environment is not an indictment of commerce but an outgrowth of purely opportunistic design. The design of products and manufacturing systems growing out of the Industrial Revolution reflected the spirit of the day-and yielded a host of unintended yet tragic consequences.

"To use something as elegant as a tree. Imagine this design assignment: design something that makes oxygen, sequesters carbon, fixes nitrogen, distills water, accrues solar energy as fuel, makes complex sugars and food, creates microclimates, changes colors with the seasons, and self-replicates, then say why don't we knock that down and write on it."- William McDonough - TEDtalks 2007

I heard this on some other video, and realized it was old, and that it was by someone i heard before. I looked online, found the quote, and it was Charlie Chaplin in the movie The Great Dictator (1940), and the content was very much an awesome call to unite against the forces that have co-opted our government and/or society. It is so fitting for today's "lay of the land." I wanted to provide it in a couple of places... think it resonates for me.
I'm sorry but I don't want to be an Emperor - that's not my business - I don't want to rule or conquer anyone. I should like to help everyone if possible: Jew, gentile, black man, white. We all want to help one another, human beings are like that.

This has got to be the most wild design i have ever seen... a building that will be constantly in motion. These designs were released on Tuesday and look really wild. All i gottah say is that i will definately need to spend one night there.
Its all pretty kewl... Individual floors will be manufactured off-site as pre-fab units; they'll then be strapped, one by one, to a central core that will house the building's engineering systems. Both towers will generate their own electricity with wind turbines fitted beneath each floor. Hard. Core. The Dubai building will host 80 floors' worth of mixed-use space; the top 10 floors will be occupied by luxury "villas" with private pools, parking— and the ability to rotate the entire floor to

St. Louis Filmmakers Showcase
July 19: Filmmaking Seminar/Film Program, Regional Arts Commission, 6128 Delmar Blvd.

this site is meant to be the tearing apart of design and addressing design goals of any given "designed" thing. "who are you and what makes you think you know any better?" as part of the free world we live in, we al have a response to design, either negative or positive, creative results can always be improved on and any rational artist / human should wish to constantly improve their work or craft, any as one friend once told me, "there is no such thing as bad criticism, just bad ways of taking it." yet this idea can run the danger of abuse, even that should be listened too. improving a craft is a lifetime process that any designer, worth-a-spit, is open and wishes to encourage an environment that fosters positive creative

Here is a thought…
all form is a function of a need and the aesthetic quality of a piece, while keeping to some pretty basic cognitive rules of perception. ok... here i will have to admit i was a psychology major, who almost went for his PhD in drug research... then well... decided to do what i do with design these days... but i am amazed every day that these "rules" seem to "ring true" to the soul/theme of any particular piece of design. I really wannah get into this more, and you will see where I am going with this when i get back to compiling design snips for a compendium of basic design principles - will say it is like going back to school, just slowly compiling from the most basic concepts, to the more complex... its been extremely educational and

Absolute Wildly Awesome Ad
Check the following ad... wile it does the "what the heck is this ad for" and makes you wait for what the ad is for, it still is pretty impressive the sub-texts... and very beautiful.
