2-Year Old Laser Projection Designs

The really cool part of this technology, is that normal light based projection methods need reflective surfaces to improve luminance of the image, and rear light projection systems degrades over the life of the tube or device. These “new” technologies provide some interesting solutions to the old multiple screen displays, without loosing quality, and in fact: improving quality over any uneven surface. I look forward to the day when these devices were more consumer level, and from what one of these two videos suggest, they will hit the market in 18 months (2 years ago) at prices comparable or of not better than the current plasma or LCD technologies and for sizes generally larger. Doesn’t look like these products have hit the market… very, VERY interested in utilizing one of these types of projectors. It would ROCK the world we live in. Imagine being able to project a full motion flash piece on a slightly frosted window, sidewalk or whole storefront, bus terminal, the passing traffic… and it looking totally awesome! Man it would be fun an amazing canvas to paint on. Just wish i could find a way to get access to one that was mobile… man that would be fun.

Using Biology to Make Better Animations (2008) Torsten Reil

This is the most important conference for new ideas out there. For years I have heard about special algorithms that were used to understand how the flow could effect blood cells through a mechanical valve using a NASA formula for analyzing air flow through a jet engine. Even the crash sequences in the pod races of Star Wars were completely based on a virtual crash formula that was 100% computer driven, and there are many other examples of this concept. It is the obvious evolution in 3d design animation. Instead of a two day creation that was the result of interpretation of what would happen in a particular case, these formula actually allow for the computer to do much of “tweaking.”

Now at TED, Torsten Reil gives a remarkable talk was given about how characters move in games, and how to make more lifelike using genetic algorithms… mimicking the human spinal cord and using evolutionary learning algorithms… it is very cool idea.

Drawings of the David Fisher Design of the Dubai TowerAgain Dubai is leading world in the new art of building innovation!

This has got to be the most wild design i have ever seen… a building that will be constantly in motion. These designs were released on Tuesday and look really wild. All i gottah say is that i will definately need to spend one night there.

Its all pretty kewl… Dynamic Building in Dubai & Moscow Individual floors will be manufactured off-site as pre-fab units; they’ll then be strapped, one by one, to a central core that will house the building’s engineering systems. Both towers will generate their own electricity with wind turbines fitted beneath each floor. Hard. Core. The Dubai building will host 80 floors’ worth of mixed-use space; the top 10 floors will be occupied by luxury “villas” with private pools, parking— and the ability to rotate the entire floor to capture the sweeping vista of their choosing. The Moscow plan (pictured above) is still in its “conceptual phase,” though the building is likely to include 70 units’ worth of offices, residential and retail space.

video-icon Fishers Turning Towers Revealed!Check out their high-res movie that shows how these buildings are planned to move and see the website about the whole project.

In all practicality, these buildings will make the occupants motion sick when the building floor changes direction, but it will be wild to see how they deal with that. It is hard to believe that this is not a paramount concern for this design, and something tells me, they have a solution.

Check the following ad… wile it does the “what the heck is this ad for” and makes you wait for what the ad is for, it still is pretty impressive the sub-texts… and very beautiful.

The Clean Up

Our latest TV ad - featuring massive paint explosions - took 10 days and 250 people to film. Huge quantities of paint were needed to accomplish this, which had to be delivered in 1 tonne trucks and mixed on-site by 20 people.

The effect was stunning, but afterwards a major clean-up operation was required to clear away all that paint!

The cleaning took 5 days and 60 people. Thankfully, the use of a special water-based paint made it easy to scrape-up once the water had evaporated.

Keeping everyone safe was also an important factor. A special kind of non-toxic paint was used that is safe enough to drink (it contains the same thickeners that are sometimes used in soups). It was also completely harmless to the skin.

The Director

Jonathan Glazer
The new Bravia TV commercial will be directed by award-winning director Jonathan Glazer, who is responsible for a dazzling array of original work in the fields of commercial, music video and film production.

His credits include videos for bands such as Jamiroquai, Massive Attack and Radiohead, some of the most memorable ads for Guinness and Stella Artois, and the feature films Birth and Sexy Beast.
