Milton Glaser’s SVA: A Legacy of Graphic Design

This clip documents Milton’s most recent show at SVA, which is a 50-year retrospective of nearly 100 works he created for the school. His work is inspiring, and would LOVE to meet this guy and have him look at my work… knowing I would probably be torn apart, it would be so awesome to learn from a man like this. Anyway, pretty kewl stuff.

FYI: This is the guy who designed the I ♥ NY campaign, and designed grocery stores thru-out America.

Blaise Aguera y Arcas: Jaw-dropping Photosynth

Saw this, and have seen other paradigms for images like this before, except this one may be primed with some traction, that allows for some new ways at looking at designing for the web, and beyond. Blaise Aguera y Arcas leads a dazzling demo of Photosynth, software that could transform the way we look at digital images. Using still photos culled from the Web, Photosynth builds breathtaking dreamscapes and lets us navigate them. Very interesting piece, and worth the watch.

MoMA Acquires “@” Symbol.

The only reason I decided to post this, is that in my opinion, it is a pretty interesting story about how a symbol/word can have a long, interesting, and diverse history. Design has many of these kinds of jewels of intricacy that make for interesting design, this is one of them. Some things in design are formed from things as simple as the need to relate a simple singular relationship. The “at” symbol does that. Every-time you see this word, you know what it means. It has several uses in the modern age, and now takes on a greater role in all of our lives. So when you see this symbol again, maybe you will not take it for granted, how much language/symbols affect/permeate our everyday life. Enjoy.
